If you’re daydreaming about your next quick excursion out of St Louis, don’t fret, we’ve got your back! – whether you’re looking to escape the city or you’re visiting and had enough of the city’s many museums here are some day trip ideas where you can explore all that Missouri has to offer.

Home to gorgeous landscapes, massive forests and lots of breweries and wineries (yes wineries!). Take advantage of all this without having to spend any money on an expensive overnight trip.

 Augusta, MO

Distance: 1.5 – 2 hours

Augusta is nestled in the rolling hills on the bluffs of the Missouri River, the town has become synonymous with wine country, with views comparable to Napa Valley. There’s lots to do here, including historical sites, Katy Trail access or just take a stroll along an abandoned railroad track, this place is the ultimate escape. We recommend taking a stroll downtown and checking out the cute shops and antique stores. If you’re ready to take on the wineries, take your pick because there’s a lot of them. We also recommend visiting Mount Pleasant Estates – which is one of the area’s oldest winery and MontelleWinery, to take in the views and delicious snacks that’s freshly prepared daily while sipping on their award-winning products. If you’re not into wine, check out Augusta Brewing Company where they make small batch beers.

Hermann, MO

Distance: 1.5 – 2 hours

Hermann offers an escape from the city, with access to multiple wineries, breweries and charming bed and breakfast locations, you just might be tempted to stay the night to prolong your getaway. You won’t be bored as there are events and things to do year-round. You can start the day by visiting the Historic Hermann Museum, or stop by the Deutschheim State HistoricSite for a guided tour of the homes of the German people who migrated to Missouri in the late 19th century. Next check out Hermannhof Winery – where you can get a taste of Hermann wines and enjoy some locally made German sausages. They even offer a tour of the stone cellars placed among the national Register of Historic Places.

Another great place to stop by is Lost Creek Vineyard, located on a scenic pastoral property adjacent to the KATY Trail.

And you can’t miss the Stone Hill Winery, one of Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery sitting on a hilltop with breathtaking views of the river valley

St. Genevieve, MO

Distance: 1.5 – 2 hours

Established in 1750, St. Genevieve was the first the first European settlement in Missouri. This charming town is filled with interesting historical sites and is a perfect day trip location for a quick romantic getaway or a family trip. The town offers a tour of the French Colonial Homes in the area to introduce the history of the structures that are over 200 years old. Definitely visit the unique Cave Vineyard, where with the purchase of a bottle of wine gives you access to the cave to enjoy. If the enclosed views are not for you, check out Weingarten Vineyard for some gorgeous views and I hear the food is just as good.

If you are looking to hit the trail, take a hike through the majestic pine trees at the Hawn State Park just 30 minutes from town. And of course, we can’t end the trip without recommending some wineries.

Get out!  Take a drive!  And enjoy the best Missouri has to offer!!
